Control Surface

cognitive-interface-architecture / control-surface

Definition

The totality of inputs a model receives at the moment of generation: the system prompt, the conversation so far, any tool definitions, any files it has been told to read, and any retrieved context. The operational substrate on which every other architectural structure is installed. Every precision term in this vocabulary either lives on the Control Surface, names a property of it, or describes an action that modifies it.

What this prevents

Prompts that ignore what the model is actually receiving: tool definitions, retrieved context, prior conversation: produce output that conflicts with or ignores that invisible context.

The Agent Control Architecture Pack includes deployable system prompts, AGENTS.md templates, and fully-worked BYOP rebuilds that operationalise every precision term.
