Demographic Drift Vector

cognitive-interface-architecture / demographic-drift-vector

Definition

The direction and magnitude by which an AI system's outputs deviate across demographic groups when an irrelevant demographic signal is present in the input. Measurable by comparing outputs across matched pairs that differ only in the demographic signal.

What this prevents

AI systems that appear to perform uniformly can produce systematically different outputs for different demographic groups without any explicit instruction to do so. The Demographic Drift Vector makes this bias measurable and auditable.
